QuiescenceQuiescence: Inactivity, quietness. In cells, quiescence is the state of not dividing. In neurons (nerve cells), quiescence is the state of not firing. The word comes from the Latin "quiescere", to become quiet. Quiescence suggests a temporary cessation of activity.
