What is the most important information I should know about R & C?· Do not use R & C if you have an allergy to chrysanthemums or ragweed.. · Do not take this medication by mouth. · Do not apply this medication to the eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. Flush with water if you get medication on these areas. · Do not use more of this medication than is directed. Using too much of this medication could be dangerous. · Avoid sexual or intimate contact with others until the infection has been cured. Also avoid sharing hair combs, hair accessories, hats, clothing, bed linens, and other articles of personal use. The infections are highly contagious. Treat others with whom you have sexual or other close contact, who are also infected. · To prevent reinfection, wash all clothing, hats, bed clothes, bed linens, hair brushes, and combs with a strong cleanser in hot water to remove any mites or eggs. What is R & C?· Piperonyl butoxide and pyrethrins are pediculicides. These products affect the nervous system of parasites. · R & C is used to treat lice. · R & C may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before using R & C?· Do not use R & C if you have an allergy to chrysanthemums or ragweed.. · Do not use R & C if you have ever had an allergic reaction to piperonyl butoxide or pyrethrins. · R & C is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. However, do not use R & C without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. · Piperonyl butoxide and pyrethrins passes into breast milk, and it is not known whether R & C will harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. How should I use R & C?· Use R & C exactly as directed by your doctor, or follow the directions that accompany the package. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. · Do not apply R & C to open cuts or wounds. Doing so could cause too much medication to be absorbed by the body, which could be dangerous. · Do not apply this medication to the eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. Flush with water if you get medication on these areas. · Contact your doctor if the eyebrows or eyelashes become infected with lice. Do not use this product on the eyebrows or eyelashes. · When using the shampoo or mousse, do not open the eyes when rinsing until the product is completely rinsed from the hair. A washcloth or towel should be used to protect the eyes when rinsing. · Do not use more of this medication than is directed. Using too much of this medication could be dangerous. · Avoid inhalation of the vapors from the mousse. Use in a well-ventilated area. Do not puncture or incinerate the can, the contents are under pressure. · To prevent reinfection, wash all clothing, hats, bed clothes, bed linens, hair brushes, or combs in hot water with a strong cleanser to remove any mites or eggs. · Store R & C at room temperature away from moisture and heat. What happens if I miss a dose?· Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions regarding the proper use of R & C. What happens if I overdose?· Seek emergency medical attention if an overdose is suspected. · Symptoms of a R & C overdose are unknown. What should I avoid while using R & C?· Avoid sexual or intimate contact with others until the infection has been cured. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome. What other drugs will affect R & C?· Do not apply other topical preparations to the affected area during treatment with R & C, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. · Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with R & C. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal products.
