What is the most important information I should know about Remodulin?

· Treatment with Remodulin may be required for a prolonged period, possibly years. Do not stop using Remodulin or adjust the dosage without first talking to your doctor.

 

What is Remodulin?

· Remodulin causes dilation (widening) of the arteries. Remodulin also decreases aggregation of platelets (substances in the blood necessary for blood clotting). These effects decrease pressure in the pulmonary artery (artery from the heart to the lungs).

· Remodulin is used in the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension to diminish symptoms associated with exercise.

· Remodulin may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

 

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before using Remodulin?

· Before using Remodulin, tell your doctor if you have     ·liver disease;     ·kidney disease; or     ·bleeding or blood clotting problems.

· You may not be able to use Remodulin, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you have any of the conditions listed above.

· Remodulin is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not use Remodulin without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment.

· It is not known whether Remodulin passes into breast milk. Do not use Remodulin without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

 

How should I use Remodulin?

· Use Remodulin exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.

· Remodulin is administered continuously by an infusion pump, through a catheter placed under the skin. Your doctor, nurse, or other healthcare provider will give you detailed instructions regarding the placement and care of the catheter and use of the infusion pump to administer the medication.

· Treatment with Remodulin may be required for a prolonged period, possibly years. Do not stop using Remodulin or adjust the dosage without first talking to your doctor.

· A single vial of Remodulin should be used for no more than 14 days after initial entry into the vial.

· Store Remodulin at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

 

What happens if I miss a dose?

· Contact your doctor if you miss a dose of Remodulin.

 

What happens if I overdose?

· Seek emergency medical attention.

· Symptoms of a Remodulin overdose include flushing, headache, low blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

 

What should I avoid while using Remodulin?

· Treatment with Remodulin may be required for a prolonged period, possibly years. Do not stop using Remodulin or adjust the dosage without first talking to your doctor.

 

What are the possible side effects of Remodulin?

· Seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following serious side effects:     ·an allergic reaction (including difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); or     ·new or worsening symptoms including shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain, and paleness of the skin.

· Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to use Remodulin and talk to your doctor if you experience:     ·pain, bleeding, or bruising at the infusion site;     ·rash;     ·headache; or     ·diarrhea or nausea.

· Side effects other than those listed here have also been reported. Discuss with your doctor any side effect that occurs during treatment with Remodulin.

 

What other drugs will affect Remodulin?

· Before using Remodulin, tell your doctor if you are taking any other medications, especially any of the following     ·a medicine used to treat high blood pressure;     ·a medicine used to treat congestive heart failure;     ·a diuretic (water pill); or     ·a blood thinner or anther medicine that affects blood clotting.

· You may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you are taking any of the medicines listed above.

· Remodulin may interact with medicines other than the ones listed here. Talk to your doctor before taking any other prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products.
