Pregnancy Complications

While there are many discomforts associated with being pregnant, the following are some signs that extend beyond discomfort into possibly signaling harm to the mother or the baby if they occur late in pregnancy:
  • A severe and/or constant headache
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Flashing lights or spots in the mother's eyes

These remaining signs may indicate danger any time during the mother's pregnancy:

  • A sudden increase in the swelling of face, feet or hands
  • The leakage of amniotic fluid
  • High fever
  • Abdominal pain that is severe or persistent
  • No movement of the baby felt for 24 hours
