Month 11Week 44 Physical Developments: - the baby now weighs 21 pounds and is 29 ½ inches long - the baby is able to climb, by himself, up and down from chairs Mental Developments: - the baby is still very curious. He will open what ever drawers and cupboards he can to see what they hold. He will pull apart and attempt to put back together whatever he can. the baby will also attempt to use objects in new ways in order to achieve a goal Senses and Reflex Development: - the baby may now be differentiating between the use of his hands Social Development: - the baby tries to help dress himself and continues to enjoy playing games - the baby may at this stage begin to develop an understanding of sexual identity - the baby loves being read to - the baby may show boredom with some of his old toys and activities Week 45 Physical Developments: - the baby now weighs 21 pounds and is 29 ¼ inches long - the baby becomes increasingly proficient at using furniture to help him balance while he walks Mental Developments: - the baby is becoming more proficient in his use of language. He can recognize words as symbols and his babble imitates normal speech rhythms and inflections Senses and Reflex Development: - the baby is able to pick up very small objects and his dexterity is becoming greater Social Development: - the baby's fear of strangers may continue or return if it had stopped - the baby may not cooperate as willingly as he had previously and may resist the mother's attempts to make him do something. - the baby's personality is becoming increasingly evident Week 46 Physical Developments: - the baby now weighs 21 ¼ pounds and is 29 ¼ inches long - the baby will now squat to play with things and will lean over to observe when he is standing Mental Developments: - the baby's vocabulary has increased and he is able to speak some more intelligible words Senses and Reflex Development: - the baby will hold out arms and legs in an effort to help the mother dress him Social Development: - In social settings with other children or among siblings, the baby will assert himself and make his presence and relevance known to others Week 47 Physical Developments: - the baby now weighs 21 ¼ pounds and is 29 ½ inches long - From a standing position, the baby is now able to lower himself without falling - the baby's physical growth is really starting to slow down at this point Mental Developments: - the baby may take his toys and store them in a box or pan - the baby may have temper tantrums when he is displeasured or does not get his way Senses and Reflex Development: - the baby may untie his shoe laces and undress himself thinking that it is a game to be played Social Development: - the baby will begin to show signs of guilt and will try to avoid such feelings by seeking socially acceptable behavior and social approval of his actions Week 48 Physical Developments: - the baby now weighs 21 ½ pounds and is 29 ½ inches long - the baby will begin to take steps without holding onto objects and he may begin to stand on his toes Mental Developments: - the baby can speak long sentences of his baby babble with proper rhythm and inflection Senses and Reflex Development: - the baby is able to take his own shoes on and off Social Development: - the baby will play with other children and interact with them - the baby continues his approval seeking behavior The baby will have mastered his ability to walk while holding on to a piece of furniture for support - this is known as cruising. The baby can squat and lean over. He is able to sit down from a standing position, and stand up from a sitting position. The baby is also now able to climb up stairs. The baby will begin to use objects in new and imaginative ways in order to achieve his desired ends. His dexterity is also more advanced and he is able to pick up small objects with his fingers. The language that the baby uses will resemble real words. The baby may even be able to so speak a few words and understand even more.
