Shoulder Dystocia

Shoulder Dystocia refers to the situation in which a baby's shoulders become stuck during delivery, preventing further movement down the birth canal. To treat this condition, one must try to slide the shoulder underneath the mother's pubic bone by pulling down on the baby's head and neck while a birth assistant pushes on the uterus from above. The mother may also pull her legs up to her abdomen to help rotate her pubic bone over the entrapped shoulder of the baby.
