Health and NutritionParenting is filled with worries. Parents are concerned with the health and well-being of their children from the prenatal period through adulthood. The infancy period - 0 to 12 months of age - is perhaps the most worrisome time for many parents, particularly first-time parents. Questions are abounding regarding infant health and nutrition. For instance, many parents wonder if it is best to feed the baby breast milk or formula; or when they should call a doctor; or when the baby should have medical checkups; or whether the baby should be given immunizations; what they should look for in a pediatrician; or what some common illnesses are in infants. This section seeks to answer these questions and put at ease any concerns and questions that parents have regarding the health and nutrition of their child. What makes monitoring the well-being and health of an infant so difficult is their inability to verbally communicate their feelings and problems. This not only makes knowing if something is wrong a challenge, but it can also make distinguishing between a minor condition that can be easily treated at home, from a more severe condition that requires medical attention. As parents become better acquainted with the tendencies and characteristics of their children, they will be better able to tell when something is wrong and what it may be. This section will act as an aid to preventing health problems, identifying them when they do occur, and ensuring proper treatment is had.
