Prenatal Exam Schedule

 
Week 12
- the mother's first individual medical visit usually occurs during this week. Here the mother will be administered a pelvic exam, a pap smear, and a cervical culture.

Week 18
- the mother's physician will begin to check the baby's growth and his heartbeat regularly. Here it will be determined whether more specialized medical attention will be required for the mother's pregnancy considering any risk factors that may have been found.

Week 22 - 24
- Typically tests for problems such as anemia, diabetes and Rh factor are performed during this period. A regular ultrasound is also given to check on the baby's status.

Week 28 - 32
- Test results will be evaluated and it will be decided whether any actions must be taken to ensure a safer pregnancy.

Week 36 - 40
- A pelvic exam will be administered during this period to check on the fetal positioning and the status of the cervix which allows the physician to predict how close labor is.
