Week 29-32Week 29The baby: the baby now weighs approximately 2. 7 pounds and is 10. 4 inches long CTR and 16. 7 inches in total. At this point space in the womb becomes very restricted and movements slow down. The baby will still kick but his activity will likely decrease as it becomes harder to move. The mother: the mother's uterus should now be about 3. 5 to 4 inches above her belly button and her maternal weight gain will likely be between 19 and 25 pounds. The chances of premature labor at this stage become low and if it does occur, there is a decent chance that the baby will be able to survive.
Week 30The baby: the baby now weighs approximately 3 pounds. He is 10. 8 inches long CTR and a total of 17 inches long. By this stage the growth of the body has caught up to the head and the baby's proportions are equal to that of a newborn. The baby's hands and feet are now fully developed and he is able to control his own core body temperature. The mother: the mother's uterine growth has likely left her uterus approximately four inches above her belly button at this stage. She should also still be gaining nearly a pound a week for the next few weeks. The pressure on her chest and abdomen will likely continue to increase as the baby grows.
Week 31The baby: the baby is now approximately 3. 5 pounds. It is nearly 11. 2 inches long CTR and 18 inches in total length. The baby's ears now have complete connections to the brain. Thus, rather than sensing vibrations of sound, he is now able to hear the sound. The mother: At this stage the mother's uterus should be approximately 4. 4 inches above her belly button and typical weight gain is between 21 and 27 pounds. Many of the symptoms of pregnancy already mentioned will still be plaguing the mother and will continue until birth.
Week 32The baby: the baby now weighs nearly 4 pounds. He has grown to a length of 11. 6 inches CTR and 18. 9 inches in total. The baby is continuing to build up fat deposits and fill out the excess skin that he has. The mother: Typically the mother's uterus should now be 5 inches above her belly button. Usually during this week physicians ask expectant mothers to be examined every two weeks rather than once a month as has been the case. This will likely continue until the last two to four weeks of pregnancy when weekly visits will be instituted.
